Why Is This Important?
Vitamins and minerals are essential for good health, indeed for life itself. Vitamin, mineral and antioxidant deficiencies have been shown to suppress immune function and contribute to chronic degenerative processes such as arthritis, cancer, Alzheimer’s, cardiovascular disease and diabetes.
Do we get what we need from our diet or do we need to supplement? If so, which ones? How much? What factors are involved? Testing for functional vitamin and mineral levels is the only way to know if you are getting what you need for optimal health.
Foods vary in vitamin and mineral content for many reasons-differences in soil quality, lower nutrient density due to early harvesting, decay of nutrient quantity due to transportation, seasonal and geographic barriers to well rounded meals, destruction of nutrients due to cooking methods and other reasons.
People vary in how they handle the vitamin and mineral content of their food based on their eating habits, their stress levels, the health of their digestive tract including the microflora, the medications they take, their age and genetic makeup and more.
People differ in their vitamin and mineral requirements due to many factors including their genetic makeup, their exposure to different pollutants and other toxic substances, their age, their stress levels, their activity level and their overall health.
For all these reasons, it is not possible to know if you are getting what you need in terms of vitamins and minerals.
At Vibrance we offer the SpectraCell Micronutrient test which measures intracellular levels of both vitamins and minerals. This is important because serum levels, the levels of the nutrients floating around in the blood, will fluctuate depending on your most recent meal. The intracellular level is more stable and reflects vitamin and mineral levels over the past few weeks to months. Additionally, it is the intracellular levels that are most important because it is only the nutrients that are intracellular that can carry out the functions of the nutrients.
The nutrients that can be measured through this comprehensive test include:
Alpha Lipoic Acid
Vitamin ESpectroxTM For Total Antioxidant Function
Glucose-Insulin MetabolismFatty Acids
The Spectracell test is performed on a freshly drawn blood sample. Once the test results are known and any deficiencies identified, the patient is given a prescription to correct any deficiencies and help ensure optimal health.
Due to the changing nature of our vitamin and mineral needs, we recommend Spectracell testing twice every year.
